Craig Sager says he’s up for yet another fight with cancer

Turner Sports reporter Craig Sager is ready to battle leukemia once again.

In an interview that will air Tuesday on HBO’s “Real Sports,” the broadcaster known for his outrageous outfits revealed that doctors told him last month that his cancer is no longer in remission.

It’s the second such setback for Sager since he was first diagnosed back in April 2014, but the 64-year-old said he’s got a lot of fight left in him.

“Still kicking. Still fighting,” Sager told HBO’s Bernard Goldberg. “I haven’t won the battle. It’s not over yet. But I haven’t lost it either.”

Sager has undergone multiple courses of treatment, including chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant from his son, Craig Sager Jr. He was cleared to return to work last March, only to learn later in the month that the cancer had come back.

After more treatment, Sager made it back to NBA sidelines for TNT this season, although he has gone to Houston every month for treatment.

According to Yahoo! Sports, Sager is scheduled to cover games several more games for the network over the next couple of weeks. He told HBO that he is now in “unchartered waters” as far as his battle with leukemia is concerned.

“I’ve already had two stem cell transplants. Very rarely does somebody have a third,” Sager said. “So I have to maintain my strength, so I can go through this.”

He added that there’s “been some victories and some setbacks. I still have to fight it. I still have a lot of work to do.”
