Craig Sager and Gregg Popovich: Reunited and it feels so good

Craig Sager returned to the NBA sidelines for TNT this season after a lengthy battle with leukemia. But it took more than five weeks before we got to see him do the interview we’d all been waiting for -- San Antonio Coach Gregg Popovich.

The two men have had more than their share of memorable moments on the air, with Sager as the serious reporter with the not-so-serious wardrobe and Popovich as the cranky coach who hates in-game interviews with a passion.

They finally reunited in front of a camera on Thursday night, between the first and second quarters of the Spurs’ 103-83 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. The result was, once again, memorable.

“I gotta honestly tell you, this is the first time I’ve enjoyed doing this ridiculous interview we’re required to do,” Popovich told Sager. “It’s because you’re here, and you’re back with us. Welcome back, baby.”

The two men embraced, and Sager said, “Thank you very much. I laid in the hospital for months hoping to do this again.”

But Popovich made sure things didn’t get carried away. “Now ask me a couple of inane questions,” he said.
