Johnny Depp’s ‘chick’s ring’ confirms engagement rumors (sort of)

Johnny Depp is sporting a band around his ring finger encrusted with a single diamond -- or what he called a “chick’s ring” -- that ultimately led him to discuss engagement rumors without actually saying that he was engaged.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor was in Beijing on Monday to promote his latest film, “Transcendence,” when reporters asked him whether he was engaged to girlfriend Amber Heard, with whom he costarred in 2011’s “The Rum Diary.”

“The fact that I’m wearing a chick’s ring on my finger is probably a dead giveaway. Not very subtle,” the 50-year-old actor said (via the Associated Press).

Depp reportedly laughed and showed off the tellingly placed accessory, which, if placed on any other finger, wouldn’t have raised eyebrows, given his ornate sense of style.

Engagement rumors first cropped up in January and were later fueled by the duo’s appearance and lovey-dovey public displays of affection at the premiere of Heard’s “3 Days to Kill” in mid-February. The ring was also visible when the actor was promoting “Transcendence” with costar Morgan Freeman at CinemaCon in Las Vegas last week. (See the photo above.)

However, no official word came regarding the upcoming nuptials until the quirky actor touched upon them at the premiere.

“I think that I would be better at making women’s shoes than I would be at wedding planning, I can’t plan anything. I’m really bad at that stuff,” he added when asked about the wedding.

Though, the fact that he’s already wearing a ring raises the question: Are they already hitched? No word on that front either...

Depp met the blond beauty, 27, on the set of the gonzo flick “The Rum Diary” in 2011. The pair has been romantically linked since the beginning of 2012, shortly after Depp announced his split from Vanessa Paradis, with whom he has two adolescent children, Lily-Rose and Jack.

Heard also ended her four-year relationship with ex-girlfriend Tasya van Ree that year.
