Treehouses aren’t always for kids. South Maui’s Hotel Wailea has created a private dining room in a treehouse overlooking the Pacific Ocean that comes with a private chef.

Nestled among mango and avocado trees, the restaurant features meals with five seasonal courses, depending on what you like.

An example of what one couple chose for a mid-August meal: It began with charred Brussel sprouts leaves with black truffles, followed by a medley of Kauai shrimp, Kona lobster and Manila clams. A pork belly summer roll and Kobe short rib followed. For dessert, the two chose a decadent chocolate dome.

At $1,200, the meal for two isn’t cheap, but it comes with pairings of wine from around the world — and a once-in-a-lifetime setting.

The Hotel Wailea gets high marks in the travel world. Its dining room is the only Relais & Châteaux restaurant in Hawaii, and Condé Nast Traveler selected it as Maui’s top hotel in 2014 and 2015.

The hotel features 72 one-bedroom suites. Prices in September and October start at $479 a night.
