Have skis, will travel: Uber can now get you and your gear home in Tahoe
Some day soon, you’ll be able to Uber to the moon. Till then, we now have snowcapped peaks to stand in for lunar landscapes. Yes, Uber has taken Tahoe.
Beginning Saturday, a new program called UberSki will offer special service to skiers and boarders, with vehicles equipped with ski racks. The rates will be the same as the company’s low-cost UberX, plus a $5 surcharge.
Uber says drivers have been trained in how to load gear into ski racks without damaging it. So go ahead, have an apres-ski brandy and leave the driving to them.
Earlier this season, Uber rolled out similar programs in Ogden and Park City, Utah.
Estimated fares for the Lake Tahoe area:
- Squaw Valley to Truckee: $32
- Alpine to Tahoe City: $29
- Northstar to King’s Beach: $26
To get to UberSki, open your Uber app and move the icon to UberSki.
