NASCAR racing is back in Las Vegas. Want to drive a lap?

That deep rumble you’ll hear this weekend in Sin City will probably be from a race car, not your stomach, as NASCAR returns to Las Vegas.

Cars will be zipping around the 1.5-mile oval at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Friday through Sunday. But the track north of town off Interstate 15 isn’t the only place where people can get a taste of the action.

Die-hard fans may want to jump-start their weekend by bidding on a chance to make a parade lap around the track before the Saturday or Sunday races.

That’s just one of the items up for bid at the Drivers Auction that starts Thursday at 6 p.m. at Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall. Proceeds will benefit the Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities.

The following evening brings an opportunity to mingle with legendary driver Richard Petty. The NASCAR Hall of Fame member will be holding a meet-and-greet Friday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Cosmopolitan’s race and sports book.

The throaty car engines will be in ear-deafening mode for Saturday’s Boyd Gaming 300 NASCAR Xfinity Series and Sunday’s Kobalt 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races.

Tickets for various Speedway events are available through Ticketmaster.

Folks who can’t make it to the actual races can still savor some of the grandstand’s favorite foods as a concoction called “hot dog nachos” is offered Friday and Sunday at Tacos & Tequila at Luxor.

The messy finger food consists of tortilla chips and French fries topped with a zesty combination of baked beans, cheese sauce, red onions, jalapeño peppers and slices of grilled hot dogs.

It might well be your stomach, not a racecar, that’s growling before downing the hearty appetizer. It’s priced at $10.
