Las Vegas: Namesake Palazzo and Venetian roses on display this summer
Are those roses real or fake? At the Palazzo Las Vegas, the answer is both. The resort recently unveiled a summer show beside the Waterfall Atrium and Gardens that’s all about the blooms.
The center of the display features a 9-foot-tall mannequin wearing flowery dresses and hats.
Though the oversized roses on the garb look real, they’re actually made of recycled paper products. According to a news release, a team of six artists spent three months creating the fashion designs.
They hand-cut and painted nearly 15,000 rose petals, after which a team of five designers spent another week turning the paper roses into dresses.
The models stand amid gardens that include more than 5,000 orchids, chrysanthemums and other real flowers.
The exhibit also showcases two varieties of roses named for the Palazzo and its sister property, the Venetian.
The Palazzo rose, which features deep crimson petals, was bred in the Netherlands, where it was introduced in December 2012. The Venetian rose, unveiled last year, has peach-colored petals.
Both varieties can be purchased through the hotels’ floral department.
The atrium’s display continues through Sept. 7.
