Happy hour cabaret returns to Las Vegas at Cleopatra’s Barge at Caesars Palace
In a city where lounge acts are nearly extinct, a new pre-dinner show is reviving vintage Vegas in an ideal setting.
“The Cocktail Cabaret” takes guests back in time at 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays, thanks not only to the music but also to the kitschy venue: Cleopatra’s Barge, a floating lounge at Caesars Palace.
The four singers who belt out blasts from the past have plenty of street cred, including stints on Broadway for Niki Scalera and Eric Jordan Young. True to the tunes of happy hours from past decades, their 70-minute show includes songs such as “Bridge Over Trouble Water,” “That’s Life” and “Viva Las Vegas,” along with original music.
The accompanying small band includes concert pianist Philip Fortenberry. His credits include serving as the “hand and body double” for the character of Liberace in the HBO biopic “Behind the Candelabra” starring Michael Douglas.
Tickets cost $55 plus fees. Guests must be at least 21 years old to enter.
Cleopatra’s Barge, which opened in 1970, is one of the handful of places along the Strip that have changed little over the decades. With its red and gold decor, the barge is modeled after the boats that transported Egyptian royalty along the Nile River during the time of Julius Caesar.
The lounge can hold up to 140 guests.
