Disney plans to build two new cruise ships, but it’ll take awhile

Disney Cruise Line says it will build two new cruise ships to join its fleet of four.

The company has entered into agreements with German ship builder Meyer Werft, but don’t start making plans for a maiden voyage anytime soon.

Ships, which have not yet been named, are expected to be finished in 2021 and 2023, according to the announcement made Thursday.

Disney gave few details of what features the ships may have. Each will carry about 1,250 staterooms, the same as Disney Fantasy, but will be a little bit larger.

Disney launched its cruise line with the maiden voyage of the Disney Magic in 1998. Since then, it rolled out the Disney Wonder in 1999, Disney Dream in 2011 and Disney Fantasy in 2012.

The line offer cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska, California, Mexico, Europe and other destinations.
