LA 2024 continues to expand its staff as Olympic plans heat up
These are busy times for LA 2024 as the private bid committee works to finish its first “deliverable,” about 60 pages of plans that must be submitted to the International Olympic Committee by next month.
On Friday, the group announced it has hired veteran Olympic executive and consultant Terrence Burns to serve as chief marketing officer in its two-year campaign for the 2024 Summer Games.

Burns has worked in and around the Olympic movement since 1993 and previously was a private advisor to LA 2024.
“Now we’re delighted that Terrence has taken a greater role in helping us tell our story,” said Casey Wasserman, the committee’s chairman.
Marketing is an important facet of the bidding process, as host cities try to show the IOC they can make the Games a financial success.
Los Angeles is competing against Paris, Rome and Budapest, Hungary, in a race that culminates with an IOC vote in September 2017.

Earlier this week, long-time IOC member Anita DeFrantz also accepted an expanded role with LA 2024, charged with overseeing the bid’s legacy component.
