Pau Gasol raising money for Philippines; visits L.A. kids’ hospital
Lakers forward-center Pau Gasol is raising money to help children who are suffering after Typhoon Haiyan devastated the Philippines.
“I am helping UNICEF raise money for their efforts on the ground,” writes Gasol on crowdrise.com. “I am pledging $1,000 for every point I score at the Lakers game on Friday to The U.S. Fund for UNICEF.”
The Lakers host the Golden State Warriors on Friday night at Staples Center.
I’ve heard from a lot of you who will join me in pledging per point I score tomorrow. Who else will join me? https://t.co/Sz9oRu1tiq— Pau Gasol (@paugasol) November 21, 2013
Gasol received some support from former Lakers coach Phil Jackson.
@paugasol I’m in for $50 per point, $50 per rebound, and $1000 for every charge taken, mi compadre— Phil Jackson (@PhilJackson11) November 21, 2013
Through 12 games, Gasol is averaging 13 points and 10.7 rebounds a game (but not many charges).
On Tuesday, Gasol visited Children’s Hospital Los Angeles with Dodgers star Yasiel Puig.

Puig has become a regular spectator at Lakers games this season.
