Lakers one of three NBA teams without an individual technical foul
Twelve games into the regular season, the Lakers are one of three NBA teams left without an individual technical foul.
Only the Atlanta Hawks, the Denver Nuggets and the Lakers are technical-free (not including technicals called for delay of games or defensive three-second violations).
The Lakers, in general, have stayed away from confronting opponents or officials. The Lakers have no flagrant fouls and no ejections.
Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook leads the NBA with four technical fouls (in eight games played).
Nine NBA coaches have collected technical fouls, but not Coach Mike D’Antoni.
Playing without Kobe Bryant, who is recovering from an Achilles injury, may have something to do with the Lakers’ good behavior. Each season, Bryant typically leads the team with double-digit technical fouls.
The league fines players $2,000 each for their first five technicals. The fine escalates to $3,000 for technicals 6 through 10 and $4,000 for 11 through 15.
A 16th technical results in a $5,000 fine and a one-game suspension. From there, the rate stays flat at $5,000 with an additional one-game suspension for every other technical (18, 20, 22, etc.).
