Lakers: Week 6 predictions
The Lakers finished Week 5 where they started, at .500 (9-9).
Week 6 is relatively quiet with just two games, Friday night in Sacramento and Sunday at home.
The Lakers will have plenty of time to practice, with hopes that Kobe Bryant will be able to return from his Achilles injury.
Also in question, the health of Pau Gasol (ankle), Jordan Farmar (hamstring) and Steve Nash (back).
The Lakers continue to exceed expectations, now three wins ahead of cumulative predictions.
Friday at Sacramento Kings
The Kings (4-11) have struggled this season, even at home, where they’re just 3-7.
Recently the Lakers defeated Sacramento at Staples Center, 110-86. Pau Gasol had a big night with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Xavier Henry contributed 21 points off the bench.
The Lakers struggled to contain Greivis Vasquez, who scored 20 points with seven assists. DeMarcus Cousins neared a triple-double with 17 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in a losing effort.
Sacramento should be better than its record.
If Bryant is able to return against the Kings, he should give the Lakers a boost -- but if Gasol and/or Farmar are unable to play, the Lakers may have a difficult night.
Prediction: Kings
Sunday vs. Toronto Raptors
The Raptors are in first place in the Atlantic Division, despite a 6-10 record.
DeMar DeRozan (21.6 points a game) and Rudy Gay (19.7) are big-time scorers for the Raptors.
Toronto scores 96.9 points a game while the Lakers have managed 101.1. If they can slow DeRozan or Gay, the Lakers should have the advantage.
Injuries are key. If the Lakers have Bryant, Gasol and Farmar, they should be able to hold home court against Toronto.
Prediction: Lakers
