Outfielder Shane Victorino arrives to join the Dodgers

Shane Victorino arrived at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday morning and the left fielder said he was ready “to go out there and win.”

Victorino immediately was placed in the Dodgers’ lineup as their leadoff batter for their afternoon game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Philadelphia Phillies traded Victorino to the Dodgers on Tuesday in exchange for reliever Josh Lindblom, minor leaguer Ethan Martin and a player to be named later or cash considerations.

“Being here a few weeks ago and playing against these guys, I knew this was a good team,” Victorino told reporters as he sat in the Dodgers’ dugout. “I’m definitely excited.”

As he did with the Phillies, Victorino will wear No. 8. Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly had worn that number but switched to No. 12.

Originally drafted by the Dodgers in 1999, Victorino went on to play several years with the Phillies, who repeatedly won the National League East division and, in 2008, won the World Series.

Leaving the Phillies “was the toughest part” of the trade with “my memories and all the things that I did there, winning the World series and becoming the player I am,” said Victorino, a two-time All-Star.

But Victorino, 31, said now he would “look past that, at a new opportunity to be here. I’m not going to change who I am. The player that you guys see in a Phillies uniform, that’s the same player you’re going to see in Dodger blue.”

“I’m going to play the game aggressively, I’m going to play hard,” he said.

Victorino arrived batting .261 with nine home runs, 24 steals and 40 runs batted in this season. He’s been especially effective against the Dodgers in his career, with a lifetime batting average of .346 against them.
