The Dodgers made history at their home opener Tuesday before a single pitch was thrown. And not the good kind.

Sadly, Vin Scully was not in the house.

Scully, 84, missed his first home opener in 35 years when felled by a bad cold.

The Hall of Fame broadcaster and Los Angeles icon is broadcasting his 63rd consecutive season for the Dodgers. The Dodgers said the only other home opener he missed came in 1977 when he was the national broadcaster for the Masters.

The Dodgers said Scully was resting at home and also was likely to miss Wednesday’s game against the Pirates. After that, he’s sort of on the Dodgers’ day-to-day list.

Charley Steiner and Steve Lyons were scheduled to fill in on the television broadcast of Tuesday’s game on Prime Ticket, with Rick Monday handling the radio broadcast on 570 AM.
