Police investigate possible homicide after death of bloodied man found on ground in Huntington Beach
Huntington Beach police are investigating the death of a man found bleeding on Ellis Avenue on Tuesday evening as a homicide, authorities said.
Police responded to a report of unknown trouble in the 7800 block of Ellis shortly after 5 p.m. They found “an elderly man lying on the ground injured with blood on his face,” according to Officer Angela Bennett.
Officers provided aid at the scene and paramedics took the man to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was pronounced dead at 5:57 p.m., according to the Orange County coroner’s office.
Authorities have not released the man’s identity or specifics of how he died.
A person who contacted KTLA/TV-5 about the incident said it appeared the man had been beaten. Police would not confirm that but said a suspect, or possibly multiple suspects, were at large.
The street where the man was found is in a neighborhood of older multifamily homes near the 5 Points Plaza shopping center.
Police blocked off Ellis Avenue for about a block between Delaware and Main streets Tuesday night as they investigated.
On Wednesday morning, police tape was still wrapped around a residence at 7821 Ellis. The sidewalk in front of it — shaded by canopies of trees — is where neighbors said the man was found.
KTLA contributed to this report.
