Sylmar shooting followed by car crash leaves one dead
A shooting in Sylmar left one man dead and another man injured early Monday morning, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police received a call about a possible shooting around 3 a.m. at Bradley Avenue and Oro Grande Street where they found a man in his late 20s who had been shot, Det. Richard Wheeler said. The injured man was transported to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center for treatment.
Shortly after officers responded to the shooting, they got a call about a car crash at Ralston Avene and Astoria Street, just around the corner from the first site. At the second location, police found another man sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle who had been fatally shot.
Police identified the deceased man as John Rickman, 34, of Sylmar.
Rickman was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene, said Officer Aeron Jefferson of Los Angeles Police Department Media Relations .
Investigators believe that the two incidents were related and that Rickman was shot at the Bradley Avenue location and kept driving until he crashed into several parked cars in front of 12447 Ralston St., where he died.
The investigation is ongoing, and the identity of the first victims is being withheld at this time. There is no evidence that anyone other than the two victims was involved in the shootings.
