Sheriff’s deputies injured in Pomona crash expected to survive
Two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies are expected to survive a traffic collision with an SUV in Pomona, officials said Thursday morning.
The incident was reported about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday near West Temple Avenue and Valley Boulevard, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
The deputies were in a patrol car responding to a call with their emergency lights on and sirens blaring when the vehicle collided with an SUV driven by a 57-year-old West Covina man, KNBC-TV Channel 4 reported.
The SUV ended up on its side and firefighters had to free the deputies and the other driver from their cars using the Jaws of Life, KCBS-TV Channel 2 reported.
The deputies were being taken by a helicopter to a local hospital, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said. The deputies suffered non-life threatening injuries, Deputy Don Walker told The Times.
The driver of the SUV was seriously injured and rushed to a local hospital. His condition was not immediately available.
