Military-grade explosive device found in backyard of Topanga Canyon home
Landscape workers digging in the backyard of a Topanga Canyon home on Saturday discovered a military-grade explosive device which later appeared to be inert, authorities said.
Deputies were dispatched to the 21300 block of Colina Drive about 5 p.m. after receiving a call about the device, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The caller said that the landscape workers had uncovered the device, which was was about 30 inches long, according to the sheriff’s statement.
The sheriff’s explosives team rendered the device safe and took it away, according to the statement. Officials later determined that the device appeared to be inert.
