Lana Meisner, wife of famed Eagles member Randy Meisner, suffered a fatal gunshot wound Sunday evening when she lifted a rifle that accidentally discharged, authorities said Monday.

Los Angeles Police Department detectives and the Los Angeles Coroner’s office have determined that the death was unintentional.

Meisner, authorities said, was moving a rifle that was stored inside a case in a closet in the couple’s Studio City home. As she lifted the rifle, another item within the case shifted and hit the trigger, causing the weapon to fire, authorities said.

Her death, around 7 p.m., followed an earlier domestic call to the couple’s address in the 3700 block of Eureka Drive, authorities said.

Around 5:30 p.m., North Hollywood patrol officers responded to a radio call of a woman asking for police assistance for a possibly intoxicated male suspect. The officers took a domestic violence incident report and left the location, police said.

Patrol officers returned to the address an hour and a half later to respond to a call of a shooting. When officers arrived they found Lana Meisner suffering from a single gunshot wound.

Her husband was cooperative throughout the investigation, police said.
