Neighbor wanted for questioning in Los Alamitos man’s killing
Los Alamitos police were looking Monday for a 41-year-old man who may be connected to his neighbor’s killing.
Eleazar Vargas was wanted for questioning in the shooting death of his neighbor Sunday afternoon off Catalina and Pine streets, police said in a statement. Friends and residents identified the victim as Sangju Sung, 39, to KABC-TV.
Officers found his body about 5 p.m. after residents reported hearing gunfire. Vargas and the victim had some kind of unknown dispute leading up to the shooting, police said.
Officers have had contact with Vargas before, but authorities would not elaborate on the nature of those incidents. Friends say that Sung and Vargas have had prior run-ins, and before Sunday’s shooting, Sung had texted his wife to say his neighbor was causing problems again, KABC reported.
Anyone with information about Sunday’s incident or Vargas’ whereabouts are asked to call police at (562) 431-2255 ext. 426.
