Girl, 13, shot in head while watching TV in grandmother’s West Sacramento home
A 13-year-old girl remained in critical condition Sunday after she was shot in the head while watching TV at her grandmother’s West Sacramento home, police said.
The girl was on the couch about 8:50 p.m. Saturday when someone opened fire outside her grandmother’s home in the 900 block of Solano Street, West Sacramento police Sgt. Roger Kinney said.
The bullets pierced the front of the home, and at least one struck the girl in the head, Kinney said. Her grandmother -- who is also her guardian -- was at home at the time of the shooting but was not injured, he said.
The girl was taken to UC Davis Medical Center, where she remained hospitalized Sunday, he said. The victim’s name is not being released.
Police are unsure what prompted the shooting and how it transpired.
“We don’t know if this is a drive-by, a walk-by, a pedal-by,” Kinney said. “We don’t know what the motivation was behind the shooting. So far, it appears to be random.”
Kinney said no other homes in the neighborhood were struck.
