When the deputy approached, the man made a “quick movement” that made the deputy believe he was reaching for a weapon, Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Kim Manatt told KTLA. The deputy then “fired rounds at the suspect,” Manatt said.
The man wasn’t hit, but when another deputy arrived on the scene, the suspect became combative by “kicking and fighting with the deputies,” according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Department. The deputies then used a Taser to subdue and arrest the man.
There was no immediate report of a weapon found on the man, whom authorities did not identify.
