14-year-old girl slain in Compton in possible gang-related shooting
Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 14-year-old girl who was shot multiple times Saturday night in Compton in what authorities believe was a gang-related shooting, authorities said.
Deputies responded to a call of gunshots about 10:10 p.m. at the corner of Elm and Alameda streets and discovered the girl lying in the street, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Witnesses told investigators that the girl was riding a bicycle when she was shot. The suspect fled the scene and authorities said they have no description of the shooter, who remains at large.
Authorities said the victim was believed to be a member of a local street gang and that the shooting is likely gang-related.
