Former high school coach gets 2 years in prison for having sex with student
A former assistant boys baseball coach at Burbank’s John Burroughs High School was sentenced to two years in state prison Thursday for having sex with a student for more than two years, starting when the girl was 15, officials said.
Jose Banuelos Jr., 28, pleaded no contest to one felony count of unlawful sexual intercourse, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
The relationship started in June 2013, about a year and a half after Banuelos was hired as a baseball coach, and continued until February of this year.
In March, the student’s family called police and she told officers of an ongoing “consensual” relationship with Banuelos, police said.
