Mother dies 2 months after her 5-year-old son was killed in blaze started by his dad, police say
A mother has died nearly two months after she was injured and her 5-year-old son was killed in a fire intentionally set in Vallejo by his father, police said.
Lametricias Seilflood, 45, died Wednesday while receiving treatment for burn injuries in Sacramento, according to the Vallejo Police Department.
Seilflood, her son Dayleon Seil-Shuemake and his 13-year-old half-brother were sleeping about 9:54 a.m. on May 22 inside the family home in the 800 block of Stella Avenue when the blaze broke out.
Several neighbors tried to rescue the younger boy, according to the Vallejo Fire Department. But it was too late.
Firefighters found Dayleon in a rear bedroom that was fully engulfed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
After the fire, an arrest warrant for the boy’s father, Darrylone Shuemake Sr., 53, was issued, accusing him of murder, attempted murder and arson, police said.
He later called the Richmond Police Department, saying he wanted to turn himself in, Vallejo police Capt. John Whitney said in a statement. Richmond police went to the location and arrested him.
Authorities said Shuemake purposely set fire to his family home, trapping his son inside.
He likely used an accelerant to set the fire in the master bedroom, police said.
