Macaulay Culkin sings about pizza in new band The Pizza Underground

Where did Macaulay Culkin go? It seemed the child star known for putting his hands to his face and screaming his lungs out in the “Home Alone” movies was everywhere for a while. Then he disappeared, only to return in a few indie movies. Now he’s back again -- with pizza.

Culkin is in a hipster Velvet Underground parody band called The Pizza Underground. And all they sing about is pizza. This is not a joke. The band released a demo album in early December, and the track list looks like the ramblings one might find in a pizza-loving Velvet Underground fan’s diary: “Papa John Says,” “I’m Beginning to Eat the Slice,” “I’m Waiting for Delivery Man,” “Cheese Days,” Pizza Day,” All the Pizza Parties,” “Pizza Gal” and “Take a Bite of the Wild Slice.”

The band wears all black and what look like Ray-Ban Wayfarers, and the men sport some serious facial hair.

“Papa John says, when answering the phone, which toppings should I say you want, we deliver now,” coos one singer in the song “Papa John Says.” “Papa John says, Papa John says that he’d like to know why you’re giving half your pie to toppings you hate now.”

Huh? Sounds like the little kid from “Home Alone 2” wrote a couple of songs on the back of a pizza box with a marker after he hopped into a limo, ate pizza and watched “The Grinch” (you’ll understand this if you’ve seen the movie).

According to the band’s website, the album was recorded at Culkin’s home Nov. 11. Culkin provides vocals and also contributes percussion and a kazoo. Other band members include guitarist and singer Matt Colbourn, singer and glockenspiel player Phoebe Kreutz, singer and pizza box player Deenah Vollmer and tambourine player and singer Austin Kilham.
