Guest chefs at Alma, Sussmans at Huckleberry, ‘New California Wine’ tasting

Downtown’s Alma will host nightly guests chefs from Dec. 17 to Dec. 21. Each chef will write a menu, “and we will adapt our style to fit theirs,” Alma chef Ari Taymor says. “Hopefully, it will feel like a different restaurant each night.” The lineup includes Joshua Meiseman, pastry chef at Commis and Box & Bells in Oakland; Chris Franken, Los Angeles chef/butcher/farmer/cheesemaker; Jessica Koslow of L.A.’s Sqirl; Chris Kronner, chef-owner of Kronner Burger in San Francisco; Flynn McGarry, of local pop-up Eureka. Brooklyn-based chef-brothers Max and Eli Sussman will pop up at Huckleberry Bakery & Cafe in Santa Monica for a one-night-only dinner on Dec. 8 to celebrate the publication of their book, “Best Cookbook Ever.” The menu will feature recipes from the book, such as roasted winter squash with chestnuts and celery vinaigrette; roasted carrots and mint; and lamb shanks with duck fat potatoes. $70 per person; includes a signed copy of the book. 7:30 p.m. 1014 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica, (310) 451-2311, www.huckleberrycafe.com.

On Dec. 15, wine writer Jon Bonné will sign copies of his new book, “The New California Wine,” at Melrose Avenue wine shop Domaine LA. Owner Jill Bernheimer and team will be pouring wines featured in the book that also are available in her shop, such as wines from Sandhi, Bedrock, Donkey & Goat and La Clarine Farm. Bonné will be there to chat about his book and all things California grape-related. The tasting is $15.
