Fox renews -- yes, renews -- ‘Sleepy Hollow’ for second season
The slow rumble of network commitments and/or breakups has begun: Fox is giving Season 2 renewal to “Sleepy Hollow.”
The series received strong ratings in its Sept. 16 premiere -- 13.6 million viewers and a 5.0 rating among adults in the 18-49 demographic, when including three days of DVR playback.
Those numbers helped make it the network’s most successful debut since “24” -- and it hasn’t lost any of that momentum.

Going full-out with a second season is unusual at this time, when networks are more likely to be deciding whether to give new shows a full-season pickup.
Fox had originally committed to airing 13 episodes of the mystery-adventure-drama -- part of the network’s initiative to launch short-order seasons and event series throughout the year in order to limit reruns.
Another 13-episode run is expected for the 2014-15 season.
“The show has proven to be a risk well worth taking -- it’s a conceptual blast unlike anything else on television and it all holds together with inventive writing and a fantastic cast,” Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly said in a statement. “I can’t wait for fans to experience what else is in store for this fall and even more of this wild ride into Season Two.”
