Jon Stewart commandeers the desk on ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’
For the final night of his post-Republican National Convention live shows Stephen Colbert ceded his “Late Show” desk to his old Comedy Central pal Jon Stewart.
Though the pair had reunited briefly at the Ed Sullivan Theater for a bit on Monday, Stewart was back in “Daily Show” form Thursday.
After popping up from beneath Colbert’s desk — to the delight of the audience — Stewart donned a blazer and a clip-on tie, and lighted into a rant.
Topics included, among other things, Donald Trump’s acceptance speech and the Republican convention in general, conservative commentators and Sean Hannity in particular, and the concept of “taking the country back.” (He also managed to work in a quick reference to the Tony-winning Broadway smash musical “Hamilton” and its creator-star Lin-Manuel Miranda.)
At the end of Stewart’s remarks Colbert popped back up and the pair embraced, clearly glad to get the old gang back together.
