Jennifer Aniston: ‘I’d really like to do a horror film’
NEW YORK -- Jennifer Aniston gets back to one of her trademark comedy roles in “We’re The Millers,” the fake-family road-trip movie with Jason Sudeikis that opened Wednesday.
But ask her what challenge she’d like to take on in the near future, and she’ll throw out a surprise.
“I’d really like to do a horror film,” the actress said in an interview. “Like a psychological exorcist-type thing.”
She started to add “I haven’t done one” -- then caught herself; Aniston’s first role, several years even before “Friends” is in an early ‘90s horror movie titled “Leprechaun.” Few saw it at the time, but Aniston’s subsequent fame has turned the film into an object of cult fascination.
When told by a reporter that he hadn’t seen it, she had one word of advice: “Don’t.”
Aniston didn’t say what was appealing about the genre, but did suggest that she occasionally wanted something that broke out beyond comedy. When she has, after all, the results have been good, most notably as an abused wife having an affair in the 2002 drama “The Good Girl.”
“We’re The Millers” continues pushing her in a new direction -- somewhat. After a spate of girl-next-door roles, the movie has her playing a stripper who fakes a life as a suburban mom to help Sudeikis’ character smuggle a truck full of pot across the Mexican border.
The movie had her (well, her character) doing an impromptu pole-dance in front of the entire cast to get out of a sticky situation.
Despite her turn to R-rated comedies -- she also played a sexually aggressive dentist in 2011’s “Horrible Bosses” -- Aniston noted that a scene like the “Millers” pole-shimmy doesn’t come easy. “You read it on the page and think, ‘This will be fun,’ ” she said. “And then the time gets closer and closer and you think, ‘Am I going to pull this off?’ ”
