Golden Globes: ‘The Revenant’ wins best motion picture drama
“The Revenant” won the Golden Globe award for best drama film.
The win capped a strong evening for 20th Century Fox’s period epic based on the true story of a man who survived being mauled by a bear and left for dead, with “The Revenant” also winning awards for best actor for Leonardo DiCaprio and best director for Alejandro G. Inarritu.

“The Revenant” beat out “Spotlight,” which has been considered the frontrunner in the Oscar race, as well as “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Room” and “Carol.”
“I cannot say how surprised I am and how proud I am to have survived this film with all these fellas,” Inarritu said, taking the stage for the second time Sunday night and reiterating what has been the theme of “The Revenant’s” awards campaign: the hardship of making it.
Inarritu also thanked “all the Native Americans” who worked on the movie, whom DiCaprio acknowledged in his speech as well.
