Comic-Con must-see panels include ‘Supergirl,’ ‘Hunger Games’ and more
We’ve entered the final countdown until Comic-Con opens its doors for Wednesday’s preview night and our detailed scan at the programming schedule reveals highlights such as “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “Supergirl,” “Doctor Who,” “Agent Carter” and more.
For those of you still finalizing your schedule of what panels you want to attend, we’ve compiled a list of some must-see programs for this year’s Comic-Con, but don’t forget to carve out some time to wander the floor of the Exhibit Hall.

Wednesday
Special sneak peak pilot screenings, 6-10 p.m., Ballroom 20
Get an early look at pilot episodes of four shows set to premiere during the 2015-2016 TV season: “Supergirl,” the upcoming series that follows another Kryptonian refugee, Kara (Zor-El) Danvers, as she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities to become a hero after years of hiding her powers; “Blindspot,” which follows FBI agent Kurt Weller as he is drawn into a conspiracy after encountering a naked amnesiac; “Containment,” about a world where a deadly epidemic breaks out and an urban quarantine is enforced; and “Lucifer,” a series that follows the original fallen angel after he has resigned from his throne and now runs a piano bar in Los Angeles. The screening will also include a new episode of the animated “Teen Titans Go!”
Thursday
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, Noon-1:15 p.m., Hall H
This panel will offer a sneak peek of the final film in “The Hunger Games” franchise with never-before-seen footage from the film. What should we expect from the upcoming showdown between reluctant revolutionary Katniss Everdeen and the cruel President Snow? The panel will also feature a Q&A with the cast and filmmaker.
Return to Gravity Falls, 12:30-1:30 p.m., Room 6A
The last season 2 episode of “Gravity Falls” ended in a cliffhanger (Grunkle Stan has a brother?), so this panel with creator and executive producer Alex Hirsch (and other special guests) is a must see for fans who want to get an early look at some footage from upcoming episodes. The panel will also feature a Q&A.
Doctor Who: BBC America’s Official Panel, 2:15-3:15 p.m., Hall H
The Twelfth Doctor, Peter Capaldi, is making his Comic-Con debut at this panel that will also feature Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald), Michelle Gomez (Missy) and lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat.
Con Man: The Fan Revolt 13 Years in the Making, 3:45-5:15 p.m., Hall H
Alan Tudyk has made a show about his global convention experiences, and now he’s presenting it at a convention. Tudyk will be joined by Nathan Fillion, P. J. Haarsma, Mindy Sterling, Tricia Helfer, Felicia Day, Casper Van Dien, Nolan North, Alison Haislip, Michael Trucco and Sky Haarsma and others to talk about the crowd-funded series.
Adventure Time with Fionna & Cake: Card Wars Dramatic Reading, 6-7 p.m., Horton Grand Theater (ticket required)
A live performance of a Card Wars match featuring voice actors Jeremy Shada (Finn), John DiMaggio (Jake), and Olivia Olson (Marceline) from “Adventure Time.” Who will floop the pig?
Friday
Nickelodeon and Dark Horse Comics: Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, 10-11 a.m., Room 25ABC
Co-creators and executive producers Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko will discuss past story lines of these fan-favorite series and tease what’s to come from the “Avatar” universe.
AMC’s The Walking Dead, Noon-1 p.m., Hall H
Actors Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Chandler Riggs, Sonequa Martin-Green, Michael Cudlitz and Lennie James, executive producer and show runner Scott M. Gimple, executive producers Gale Anne Hurd, Dave Alpert and Greg Nicotero will all be present to discuss Season 5 as well as what to look forward to in Season 6 (with an official sneak preview).
AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead, 1-2 p.m., Hall H
Get a sneak peek at the upcoming new “Walking Dead” spinoff series with a panel featuring actors Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Elizabeth Rodriquez, Lorenzo James Henrie, Ruben Blades and Mercedes Mason, executive producer and show runner Dave Erickson and executive producers Gale Anne Hurd, Dave Alpert and Greg Nicotero.
Game of Thrones Panel and Q&A Session, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Hall H
Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy/Reek), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth), Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth), Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell), Conleth Hill (Varys), director David Nutter, Hannah Murray (Gilly), executive producer Carolyn Strauss, Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), Carice van Houten (Melisandre) and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) will be on hand to discuss all the happenings in Westeros during the recently concluded Season 5.
Marvel Television Presents, 3-4:15 p.m., Ballroom 20
Marvel’s head of TV Jeph Loeb and the show runners and cast members of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “Agent Carter” will be on hand to discuss the shows and share some exclusive news.
Lucasfilm, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Hall H
Two words: “Star Wars.” This panel is a special look at the upcoming “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” with Lucasfilm President and producer Kathleen Kennedy, director J.J. Abrams, writer Lawrence Kasdan and other special guests.
iZombie Special Video Presentation and Q&A, 5:45-6:45 p.m., Ballroom 20
The stars of the series, about a zombie coroner’s assistant who maintains her humanity by consuming human brains, as well as executive producers Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero-Wright will be on hand for a Q&A session to discuss the first season and upcoming second season following a special video screening.
Orphan Black: BBC America Official Panel, 5:45-6:45 p.m., Room 6BCF
The third season of “Orphan Black” ended with a bang and stars Tatiana Maslany (Sarah and the Leda clones), Jordan Gavaris (Felix), Maria Doyle Kennedy (Mrs. S), Dylan Bruce (Paul), Kristian Bruun (Donnie) and Ari Millen (Mark and the Castor clones), along with co-creators John Fawcett and Graeme Manson will talk about the series as they prepare to shoot Season 4.
Starz: Ash vs. Evil Dead, 6-7 p.m., Room 6A
Original star and filmmakers including Bruce Campbell, Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, Ivan Raimi, Craig DiGregorio and Lucy Lawless will talk the upcoming TV series and share what fans can expect during the first season of the show.
Saturday
Last Man on Earth, 10-11 a.m., Indigo Ballroom
As the first season of “Last Man on Earth” progressed we found out that hero Phil Miller (Will Forte) was neither the last man on Earth nor actually much of a hero (he is also no longer called Phil). Cast members Forte, Kristen Schaal and January Jones along with director and executive producer Chris Miller will discuss the show’s inaugural season as well as tease the second season.
Warner Bros. Presentation, 10:30 a.m.-noon, Hall H
“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” will take center stage with director Zack Snyder and actors Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter and Gal Gadot giving a sneak peek at the 2016 film. Also represented will be “Pan,” with stars Hugh Jackman, Garrett Hedlund, Levi Miller and director Joe Wright, and Guy Ritchie’s “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”, with actors Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander and Elizabeth Debicki.
Childhood’s End, 11 a.m.-noon, Indigo Ballroom
“Childhood’s End” is an upcoming miniseries based on Arthur C. Clarke’s novel in which Earth transforms into a seeming utopia following a peaceful invasion by mysterious alien overlords. Cast members Charles Dance, Mike Vogel, Julian McMahon, Daisy Betts, Yael Stone, director Nick Hurran and screenwriter Matthew Graham will discuss their on-screen adaptation of the book.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, 12:15-1:15 p.m., Hall H
A zombie twist on Jane Austen’s classic, “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” cast members Lily James, Sam Riley, Bella Heathcote, Douglas Booth, Jack Huston and Matt Smith along with writer and director Burr Steers and the book’s author, Seth Grahame-Smith, will share a first look at the film. The presentation will also feature a first look at a different kind of pandemic with “Patient Zero,” where a super-strain of rabies has turned the majority of humanity into intelligent killers, with cast members Smith, John Bradley, Natalie Dormer, and Clive Standen along with director Stefan Ruzowitzky and screenwriter Mike Le.
Legendary Pictures, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Hall H
Watch some never-before-seen footage from the upcoming films “Crimson Peak” and “Warcraft” in a panel that will feature the cast and filmmakers discuss their films and Legendary’s upcoming movie slate. The presentation is also set to include surprises from the upcoming films “Great Wall,” “Krampus” and more.
Outcast TV Series: A First Look with Robert Kirkman, 3-4 p.m., Room 6DE
A first look at the TV adaptation of Robert Kirkman and Paul Azaceta’s comic book series about a young man whose entire life has been plagued by demonic possession embarking on a journey to find answers and regain normalcy. The panel will feature series executive producer Chris Black and cast members Patrick Fugit, Philip Glenister and Wrenn Schmid (and surprise guests).
The Expanse, 4-5:30 p.m., Indigo Ballroom
Get a first look at the screening of the series premiere of “The Expanse” with the cast and executive producers. The upcoming TV series is based on the sci-fi novel series of the same name, which is set 200 years in the future where the Solar System has been fully colonized. The show will follow a police detective and his crew on assignment to find a missing woman whom they discover is connected to a conspiracy.
20th Century Fox, 5:45-7:30 p.m., Hall H
A long block of time for a panel with no official description. Could we see a look at “Fantastic Four” or more?
Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment Screening Block, 8-11 p.m., Hall H
Catch a screening of the pilot episode of “Supergirl,” a sneak peak at the digital series “Vixen,” and video presentations and Q&As with the cast of “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Gotham” and the upcoming “Legends of Tomorrow” all in one seating.
Sunday
American Horror Story and Scream Queens, 12:30-1:30 p.m., Hall H
A one-stop horror spot with a panel that features the cast of “Scream Queens” (Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Skyler Samuels, and Keke Palmer) opposite the cast of “American Horror Story: Freak Show” and “American Horror Story: Hotel” (Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Matt Bomer).
Heroes Reborn: Exclusive Extended Trailer and Q&A, 1:45-2:45 p.m., Hall H
The recently released “Heroes Reborn” trailer asked “Where are the heroes?” and it seems a lot of them might be at Comic-Con. The panel will feature series creator Tim Kring with cast members Greg Grunberg, Jack Coleman, Zachary Levi, Robbie Kay, Kiki Sukezane, Ryan Guzman, Gatlin Green, Henry Zebrowski, Judith Shekoni, Danika Yarosh, and Rya Kihlstedt discussing the upcoming series.
Chip Zdarsky: A Life, 3-4 p.m., Room 7AB
A spotlight panel on writer and artist Chip Zdarsky of “Sex Criminals,” “Howard the Duck” and “Kaptara” fame would be a shame to miss.
