Trace Adkins’ wife has filed for divorce after 16 years of marriage, turning the singer’s recent life into even more of a country song.

Rhonda Adkins filed the paperwork in Tennessee on Tuesday afternoon, according to TV station WSMV, and cited the standard “irreconcilable differences.” She’s asking for alimony and primary residential custody of their three girls — ages 16, 12 and 9 — and also wants to be the primary beneficiary on Trace’s life insurance policy, TMZ said.

They separated only Monday, according to the filing.

Trace Adkins just recently got out of a Florida rehab, which he entered voluntarily for alcohol-addiction treatment in mid-January after an intoxicated verbal altercation with an impersonator in a cruise-ship bar.

The 52-year-old stayed in for two weeks, but was allowed to leave to be in Louisiana with his father Aaron Adkins in the days before his dad’s Feb. 1 death and subsequent funeral, CMT reported. The country star then returned to the rehab, resurfacing in Nashville around the end of February, according to the Tennessean.

Adkins made a surprise appearance March 11 at the Grand Ole Opry, the newspaper said, performing “Kiss You All Over” with the group Exile as the last song of the evening. He’d covered the 1978 Exile hit with the band on his 2013 album “Love Will.”

Exile bassist Sonny LeMaire, who had helped set up the gig, said the singer “looked like a million bucks. He has lost weight. He’s toned up. He was smiling. Trace Adkins was smiling and grinning from ear to ear. He said he feels great. It was good.”
