Sandra Bullock saw intruder from her bedroom door, affidavits say

Sandra Bullock had a close encounter with the man now facing felony burglary, stalking and weapons charges regarding a June intrusion at her home, according to newly released police affidavits.

The Oscar winner said she heard loud noises inside the house early on June 8, opened her bedroom door and saw suspect Joshua James Corbett in the hallway, the Associated Press reported.

Bullock then slammed the door shut, locked it and called 911. When police were taking Corbett away, he allegedly shouted, “Sandy, I’m sorry. Please don’t press charges.”

The suspect was said to have been carrying a notebook filled with magazine pictures of Bullock and a number of handwritten notes, including one written the day before the break-in referring to the actress as his wife and her 4-year-old child, Louis, as his son.

The 39-year-old wrote in the letter that he’d followed her home from an event just days earlier and wished he could have followed her inside the gates.

Upon his arrest the morning of June 8, police said, Corbett acknowledged breaking in and told officers that he wanted Bullock to know that her security wasn’t foolproof. Police said he was unarmed.

However, Los Angeles Police Department officers turned up what was described as an “arsenal of weapons” after they searched Corbett’s Montrose home following his arrest. He has been charged with 22 felonies — to which he pleaded not guilty — and according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office faces up to 12 years in county jail if convicted.

Corbett remains behind bars, with bail set at $2.2 million.
