Sandra Bullock stalking suspect faces new charges over ‘arsenal’

A man charged with stalking Sandra Bullock after an arrest earlier this month at her home pleaded not guilty Wednesday to additional weapons charges brought after what authorities called an “arsenal of weapons” was found during a police search of his home.

Joshua James Corbett, who’s been in custody since the incident early on June 8, was previously charged with three felonies: first-degree residential burglary, stalking and possession of a machine gun. He pleaded not guilty to those counts last week.

Then Wednesday brought 19 additional felony counts, sparked by a Los Angeles Police Department search of Corbett’s Montrose home that turned up what Deputy Dist. Atty. Wendy Segall characterized in a statement as “an arsenal of weapons.”

Bullock was home at the time of the incident, and according to L.A. Now, police said Corbett was in the yard “checking out the house” when officers arrived. He was arrested around 6:45 a.m. The Oscar winner had locked herself in a room, TMZ reported. Bullock was awarded an emergency protective order against Corbett the day after his arrest.

He pleaded not guilty Wednesday, L.A. Now reported, to the new felony charges: seven counts of possession of a machine gun, two counts of possession of an assault weapon and 10 counts of possession of a destructive device. If convicted on all of the new counts, he faces up to 12 years in county jail, the D.A.’s office said.

The so-called destructive devices may have included tracer bullets, according to TMZ‘s law-enforcement sources, who also told the website that Corbett was at Bullock’s home not to burglarize it but to see the actress in person.

Bail, previously set at $185,000, has been upped by $2 million. Corbett’s next court appearance is set for July 2.
