Philip Seymour Hoffman autopsy inconclusive; 4 drug arrests made
Philip Seymour Hoffman died Sunday from an apparent drug overdose, but the wait for an official cause of death isn’t over: The autopsy conducted on his body didn’t tell the tale clearly, and toxicology tests are still pending.
A spokeswoman from the New York City medical examiner’s office explained it Wednesday to Nation Now. “Our examination has been concluded but the results are inconclusive,” Julie Bolcer told The Times. “We are awaiting results and additional studies.”
The screen and stage actor was found dead in his New York City apartment with a syringe in his left forearm and drug paraphernalia nearby. Upward of 50 -- some reports have gone as high as 70 -- packets of heroin were found in the apartment, and Hoffman in the past had commented on his addiction.
Police on Tuesday night arrested four people on drug charges, Nation Now said. Though police wouldn’t officially link the arrests to the death investigation, TMZ reported that authorities were working off an investigation-related tip. Three men and one woman were arrested, all from New York and allegedly possessing 350 packets of heroin among them, the website said.
Two of the men were charged with felony drug possession, according to Nation Now. The other man and the woman were charged with criminal use of drug paraphernalia, criminal use of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.
