Mindy Kaling’s cool with her Elle magazine cover, ‘ya pervs’

Mindy Kaling has slammed the lid down on the brouhaha surrounding her Elle magazine cover, one of four shots featuring different ladies for the mag’s Women in TV Issue.

And she’s done it by being funny, which makes it even better.

“I love my @ELLEmagazine cover,” Kaling wrote Tuesday on Twitter. “It made me feel glamorous & cool. And if anyone wants to see more of my body, go on thirteen dates with me.”

“More of my body” refers to the heart of the controversy: “The Mindy Project” star, 34, was the only one of the four to be cropped in tighter, so that the shot showed mainly her face and not her bod.

Another “controversial” point: Kaling, who’s of Indian descent, is the group’s only woman of color, and the only one not shown in color.

The other women -- Zooey Deschanel of “New Girl,” Amy Poehler of “Parks and Recreation” and Allison Williams of “Girls” -- grace their covers in color and in the mag’s more traditional three-quarter poses.

The magazine, which sparked a similar firestorm when it put a glamorous Melissa McCarthy on its cover in a long, $3,000 cashmere coat, obscuring her not-a-size-zero physique, was standing by its decision. (McCarthy, incidentally, told Jay Leno that she picked out the coat herself during the shoot.)

“Mindy looks sexy, beautiful and chic,” Elle said in a statement. “We think it is a striking and sophisticated cover and are thrilled to celebrate her in our Women in TV Issue.”

Kaling also tweeted about where the “pervs” who wanted to see more of her body could do just that: on her show Tuesday night.

“Wishing for more skin on my @ELLEmagazine cover? Chris Messina & I are naked on a brand new #themindyproject tonight, ya pervs! 930/830 FOX,” she wrote. “(It’s actually, coincidentally, true. Thank heavens my writers constantly script nudity. So: super funny, totally nude Chris/Mindy tonight!)”

Messina plays Dr. Danny Castellano on the show, created by Kaling, who’s a “Mindy Project” producer and writer as well.
