Chris Pine charged with drunk driving after ‘Z for Zachariah’ party
Chris Pine has been charged with drunk driving following a March 1 arrest at a sobriety checkpoint in New Zealand, according to reports out Wednesday.
Court documents revealed that the star of the “Star Trek” reboot movies and “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” is due in court Monday regarding the case, according to the Associated Press.
Though Pine was unnamed in the police statement, officials said that a 33-year-old American was stopped during a routine checkpoint in Methven, a South Island town, early that morning and charged with driving with a blood-alcohol content level over the legal limit, which is 0.08 in New Zealand.
Pine failed the “evidential blood test,” according to Christchurch newspaper the Press, and was charged with “driving with excess blood alcohol.” Pine is scheduled to appear in Ashburton District Court on March 17.
The Los Angeles-born actor is said to have been very polite and “easy to deal with,” TMZ said.
The blue-eyed star was in New Zealand filming “Z for Zachariah” on the island’s Banks Peninsula. The sci-fi flick, due out in 2015, also stars “12 Years a Slave’s” Chiwetel Ejiofor and “The Wolf of Wall Street’s” Margot Robbie.

Pine and the cast and crew, including Robbie, had reportedly been at the Blue Pub bar to celebrate the end of filming on Feb. 28. The bar shut down for the 80-person wrap party, Blue Pub manager Casey Crawford told the Press. The bar was offering transportation for its patrons.
Pine, accompanied by his girlfriend, Icelandic beauty queen Iris Bjork Johannesdottir, had been drinking beer before the couple left at about 2:30 a.m.
“Chris was really good. They were a good crowd, the whole lot of them,” Crawford said, adding that Pine also took photos with locals who wanted pictures of him.
Pine’s agent and publicist did not immediately respond to the Los Angeles Times’ requests for comment.
