Divorce for Captain & Tennille, ‘Love Will Keep Us Together’ duo
Children of the kitschy ‘70s, we’re all latchkey kids now: The Captain & Tennille are getting divorced.
Toni Tennille, 73, real name Cathryn Antoinette Tennille, filed for divorce from the “Captain,” Daryl Dragon, 71, in an Arizona courthouse Thursday, according to RumorFix. People later confirmed the news, as did TMZ, which talked to Dragon.
The keyboard player said he didn’t know why she’d filed, adding, “I gotta figure it out for myself first.”
The pop duo famously brought the world “Love Will Keep Us Together,” for which they won the 1975 Grammy for record of the year, “Do That to Me One More Time” and “Muskrat Love.” (G’head, click that link and hit play, we dare ya. The song will be stuck in your head the rest of the day.)
TMZ noted that the divorce docs included a special mention of medical insurance, which could play a role in things as Dragon was diagnosed with a type of Parkinson’s disease in 2010 that caused him to have tremors and subsequent difficulty playing the keyboard. Tennille revealed the info about his health in a 2009 blog post and referred to it again in a 2010 update.
The two had been married 38 years as of November. They have no kids.
