Cameron Diaz, Benji Madden are married after short engagement
Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden are married -- just like that.
After a short engagement, the ceremony took place Monday night at their home in Los Angeles, her rep confirmed to People exclusively.
Remember, this is the same Diaz who just months ago told Marie Claire: “I’m not looking for a husband or marriage or not not looking for that stuff. I’m living, not thinking what I should or shouldn’t be doing with my life.”
Good things come to those who aren’t waiting?
Last month, the “There’s Something About Mary” actress and Good Charlotte rocker Madden got engaged after dating since May. Now the rest is history.
“We couldn’t be happier to begin our new journey together surrounded by our closest family and friends,” the couple told People in a statement, referencing what was described by her rep as an “intimate ceremony” -- with, a mag source said, about 90 guests who partied in the backyard after the vows were said indoors.
Rumors began swirling after a celebratory dinner of some sort happened at Il Cielo in Beverly Hills on Saturday. Key personnel were also spotted at an “intimate” dinner Sunday, according to Us Weekly. Then various vendors were spotted Monday outside Diaz’s Beverly Hills Post Office home, trucking in all sorts of wedding trappings, TMZ reported.
According to People, the real rehearsal dinner was held at the home over the weekend. The bride had a bachelorette party over the weekend and spent Sunday night at a hotel, the mag said.
The couple were reportedly trying to pass off the festivities to neighbors as a pre-Golden Globes party -- the awards are this Sunday -- but that didn’t quite explain the presence of a couple of celebrity wedding planners.
“Benji tends to fall in love easily, but this time it’s for real and he landed a great girl,” a source told Us Weekly. “They obviously both make each other incredibly happy, and there’s nothing better than that.”
It’s a first wedding for the bride, 42, and the groom, 35. He was engaged once before. This means Diaz is now sister-in-law to Nicole Richie, who is married to Benji’s twin brother, Joel Madden. Richie and Madden’s son Sparrow reportedly served as ring bearer.
Drew Barrymore was a bridesmaid, People said, while Reese Witherspoon and Gwyneth Paltrow were among the guests.
