‘Boy Meets World’ spinoff finds its ‘Girl’: Rowan Blanchard
The “Boy Meets World” spinoff has found its girl.
Cory and Topanga’s daughter will be played by 11-year-old Rowan Blanchard, a Disney Channel rep confirmed to the Ministry.
“I have a beautiful, new daughter. Welcome to the family @rowblanchard! #GirlMeetsWorld,” show star Ben Savage tweeted Tuesday.

“Girl Meets World” will center on Riley (Blanchard), the daughter of Cory Matthews (Savage) and Topanga Lawrence (Danielle Fishel), who starred in the original series that aired on ABC from 1993 to 2000, Show Tracker reported.
“As soon as Rowan walked into the room, I was reminded of why Ben Savage was loved as Cory Matthews,” pilot producer Michael Jacobs told EW. “Rowan is real and accessible and I am hopeful this girl is about to meet a world that will love growing up with her as well.”
Blanchard has not worked for Disney in the past but has appeared in “Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D” and “The Back-Up Plan.” Jacobs served as the executive producer of “Boy Meets World,” “Charles in Charge” and “My Two Dads.”
The show looks to be lined up for Disney Channel’s 2013-14 schedule and production on the pilot will begin next month.
No word yet on other series favorites being cast in the show, but Rider Strong, who played Cory’s best friend, Shawn Hunter, in the original series, made it seem last November that he was unlikely to return.
“I am extremely happy for Ben and Danielle to be able to continue the story. At this point, I have no official involvement in Girl Meets World,” he wrote on his website. “There might be a chance to see some of the BMW cast in a guest spot, and I think it would be nice to find out where our characters have been all these years. But Girl Meets World will be, and I think it should be, it’s own show. It will be about Cory and Topanga, their daughter, and a new set of characters. It’s the next generation. And I, for one, can’t wait to see it evolve.”
The good news is, the series reprisal has reignited interest in a “Saved By the Bell” reunion/spinoff, according to “SBTB” star Mark-Paul Gosselaar. We hope, for Bayside’s sake, he’s not talking of “The New Class” variety.
