Want to be first with a new iPad? Head to Wal-Mart
Buying the new iPad from a Wal-Mart may not have the same cache as queuing up outside a sleek Apple store with other Apple die-hards, but it might save you time.
Wal-Mart will start selling the new iPad at 12:01 a.m. Friday morning, according to multiple media reports. If you go to an Apple store, you’ll have to wait until 8:00 a.m. Friday to get your paws on the newest tablet.
Wal-Mart did not respond to a request for comment from the Los Angeles Times, but Bloomberg’s Businessweek reports that it received an email from a Wal-Mart representative saying that a limited supply of the new iPad will be available at the superstore’s 24-hour locations.
A Wal-Mart spokesperson told CNET that the availability of iPads will vary by store, but it will sell the 16GB Wi-Fi model in black or white for $499, as well as the last generation of the iPad 2 for $399.
Other non-Apple stores selling the new iPad include Verizon stores, which will open at 8 a.m. Friday, as well as at Target, Best Buy, RadioShack and Sams Club.
