Hollywood Bowl founding director’s former home changes hands in Hollywood Hills West
The Mediterranean-style home built in 1925 for Hugo Kirchhofer, the founding music director of the Hollywood Bowl, has booked a buyer in Hollywood Hills West. The sale price was $1.575 million.
Kirchhofer is credited with naming the iconic venue after surveying the park and calling it a “bowl.”
The three-level home is characterized by bright walls of yellow, green and blue, as well as airy living spaces that open to spacious balconies. Stained glass windows accent the living room and kitchen.
The house reflects Kirchhofer’s musical mentality, as the step-down living room that anchors the floor plan acts as a natural stage.
Outdoor spaces include a front courtyard with a fountain and a covered patio. In addition, a landscaped backyard that borders Alta Loma Terrace holds a fountain, brick walkway and bridge feature.
Four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms lie within 3,071 square feet of interior space. There’s also a guest suite for added flexibility.
The home sits a few hundred feet south of the Hollywood Bowl. It originally hit the market in October for $1.99 million, records show.
