In a sign that his days in San Francisco may be numbered, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has put his home in San Jose up for sale at $2.895 million.

Kaepernick, who can opt out of his contract at season’s end after restructuring it in October, bought the house two years ago for $2.7 million.

Extensively remodeled during the quarterback’s ownership, the gated two-story home opens through custom wood doors to a foyer with a wall aquarium. Modern fixtures, subdued hues and wood-paneling lend a contemporary vibe to nearly 4,600 square feet of interior space.

A living room with a fireplace, an updated kitchen, an office/den, four bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms are among the living areas. A formal dining room currently holds a billiards table, and a paneled lounge features a leather-wrapped bar.

On the second floor, an alcove looks down on the foyer through a glass-bottom floor.

Outdoors, hedged and fenced grounds center on a swimming pool and spa with a waterfall feature. A covered pavilion, lawns and landscaping fill out the more than half-acre setting.

Mike Strouf of Intero Real Estate Services holds the listing.

Kaepernick, 29, began the year behind Blaine Gabbert at quarterback, but regained the starting job in Week 6. He has 1,440 yards passing and 373 yards rushing in seven games this season, his sixth with San Francisco.
