Black Friday deals begin Thursday
Retailers eager to lure holiday-minded customers have firmly tipped Black Friday opening hours into Thanksgiving night, although this year the chains haven’t chosen to move the starting line up even earlier as they have in previous seasons.
There are holdouts that are still closed on Turkey Day, including Nordstrom, Costco and Staples.
And as employees and some consumers voiced displeasure about Thanksgiving retailing, others have decided to keep their doors closed on Nov. 26 this year. Clothing retailer H&M recently changed course and said it would close its U.S. stores for the first time on Thanksgiving.
Taking it a step further, Recreational Equipment Inc. (better know as REI) announced a few weeks ago that its stores, distribution centers and headquarters would be closed Thanksgiving and Black Friday.
Below are opening times for some major retailers during the kickoff holiday shopping event.
Thanksgiving:
•3 p.m.: J.C. Penney
•5 p.m.: Toys R Us, Best Buy
•6 p.m.: Target, Kohl’s, Wal-Mart, Sears, Macy’s
•7 p.m.: Kmart
Black Friday:
•6 a.m.: Bed Bath & Beyond, Home Depot
•8 a.m.: Nordstrom, although some stores open later
