Cleaning Up Riot Aftermath
Apparently, it is not yet “morning in the White House.” George Bush seems to be talking in his sleep when he blames “the liberal programs of the ‘60s and ‘70s” for the riots (May 5). His policies of the last 12 years, including his vetoes of the civil rights act, have done nothing but make the poor poorer and more desperate. It is fitting that the headline “White House Blames ‘Liberal Programs’ for Riots” was adjacent to “Poll Finds Voter Support for Bush Eroded by Riots.” No point in waking him up now; just push his bed to his Texas hotel room in January.
