The former Manhattan Heights Elementary School in Manhattan Beach, closed 12 years ago because of declining enrollment, is to be sold.

Bids for the 4.2-acre site in the 1600 block of Redondo Avenue will be opened Nov. 15, according to Pete Schiff, business manager for the Manhattan Beach School District. Proceeds will be used to help eliminate the district’s anticipated budget deficit, he said. The budget for the 1988-89 school year is about $8.5 million, Schiff said.

The district has set a minimum bid of $6.6 million for the property, which is zoned for single-family homes. About 240 people have requested bid forms, he said.

The school is now used by the Congregation Tifereth Jacob.
