Rob Ford wins Toronto council seat; brother loses mayoral race
The Ford mayoral era appears to have ended in Toronto after Doug Ford, brother of scandal-plagued Rob Ford, was projected to lose his bid against moderate conservative John Tory.
But there will still be a Ford in Toronto government. Rob Ford seems to have easily won his district race, with 60% of the vote.
Local media and the Associated Press named Tory the winner of the mayoral race with 40% of the vote and only 100 precinct votes uncounted.
Rob Ford announced this year that he was dropping out of the race for mayor because of a cancer diagnosis. His brother Doug then announced his bid.
The Ford bothers have become notorious with controversial comments and illegal activity. Rob Ford was caught on camera at least twice smoking crack cocaine.
