Lighting of the Embarcadero in San Francisco
San Francisco’s Embarcadero Center flips on the lights in an annual ceremony. It starts with a holiday fair, followed by a free ice-skating show and an hourlong party in the Hyatt Regency’s vast lobby. At the Hyatt, the Cirque du Soleil-style Velocity Circus will perform, a youth choir will sing and the hotel will turn on its 300,000-light display. An eco-perk: Attendees who bring in their old strands of Christmas lights can exchange them for LED strands for free.
When, where: Starts at 4 p.m. Nov. 16 at the foot of Market Street.
Cost: Free.
